How to Become an Official Reader for the Darrell Awards

The application form for those who want to become Official Readers for the
Darrell Awards is now online and can be downloaded from our website at in your choice of Adobe pdf, Word doc or versions.

(Yes, this is a form to be filled in and sent back — the pre-Internet meaning of application. It is not an app. Grin)

Every year, we read Novels, Novellas, and Short Stories; in alternating years, we read or view or listen to Other Media works or Young Adult works. This is all to choose the Best published SF/F/H that either is by a greater Memphis area author or that uses our area as a setting.

Over the years, I have been amazed at how good some of these works are — and how awful others of them are. Whether good or awful, I would never have read them without participating in the Darrells.

You might just find a new favorite author — or add to your list of authors to avoid (grin).

In any case, we invite you to participate if you are interested. The first step to doing so is the Application, which is now online.

All you have to do is visit our website ( and look at the Site Map column on the left. The 2nd item listed there is the Official Reader Application. Click on your preferred version, save it, fill it in and send it back to memphissf at cs dot com or
darrell at darrellawards dot org.

Or you can mail it to us at Darrell Awards

About Darrell Awards

The Darrell Awards are presented annually in support of Midsouth Literacy by recognizing the best published Science Fiction, Fantasy and/or Horror in Short Story, Novella, Novel, Young Adult and Other Media formats. Our related Dal Coger Memorial Hall of Fame Award is given for an author who has made exceptional contributions to Midsouth Literacy by having published a substantial body of work that is or would have been eligible for the Darrell Award. The Darrell Awards and the Coger Hall of Fame award are presented at MidSouthCon, held in March of each year in the Memphis, Tennessee area. Please see the entries and pages on this blog, as well as any files linked from here for more information. You can also find us on Facebook at and on Twitter at @darrellawards.
